Gun-toting Tootie Smith, a Republican former state representative, is raffling off a 9 mm Glock pistol to raise money for her campaign for a Clackamas County commission seat.
Tickets are $5 each, and each supporter can buy an unlimited number of tickets. So far, Smith has raised $1,000 and hopes to bring in $5,000. She plans to draw the winning ticket on the night of the May 15 primary.
“I’m a Second Amendment rights advocate, and guns in Clackamas County are really big, and it’s just fun,” she said about the fundraiser.
The winner will need to pick up the Glock at Wild Bill’s Guns in Molalla and fill out paperwork to undergo a background check. Smith’s campaign will pay Wild Bill’s the wholesale rate for the gun, about $500. Smith also said she’ll pay for the winner to undergo a gun safety class in order to become a concealed handgun license holder.
Smith herself holds a concealed weapons license, though she doesn’t regularly carry her .38 Smith & Wesson revolver.
