AutoZone Fires Worker Who Stopped Robbery

An AutoZone worker who stopped an armed robbery by retrieving a weapon from his truck said he was fired by the company for violating their gun policy.

Devin McLean and his store manager were about to close the AutoZone in York County, Va. when a gunman barged into the store.

“He pulled a gun from his waist band and demanded me and my manager go back into the office,” McLean told Fox News.

At some point, McLean was left in a restroom while the gunman made the manager open the store safe. That’s when McLean, a 23-year-old Air Force veteran, bolted through a side door and ran to his truck.

More worried about their employees? I don’t think so. That’s why these robbers strike stores and areas where the policy is to give in to the robbers. They prey on the fact that nobody will fight back, or stop them. They are cannibals who are preying on the sheep, because businesses are afraid to have their employees be confrontational and maybe killed (and then the lawsuits). Amazing how few crimes are committed where there is an armed presents.

Well I won’t be shopping at AutoZone anymore. Gutless idiots. They deserve to be robbed.

I’d like to see one of the other auto parts stores hire this guy. If one did, that would be the store I would go to from now on. Only reason to go back to Autozone will be to exchange broken parts with lifetime warranty, period.

There was a Napa auto parts that got hit and a store employee hit the bad guy with an off the shelf tailpipe. got the guy in the side the head and lights out until the sheriff showed up.

Well… I think Autozone is heartless, careless and STUPID!
This worker obeyed the rules and had his weapon in his vehicle not in the store.
ANY store that enforces a rule such as this in time of emergency needs to be boycotted!
The one here where I live will definately not be getting any more of my business…

Mike, send your message to Auto Zone, they will never read this…..they are only affected if it’s in their face,….boycotts have to be directed to the Executives and heads of Brands Advertising….

truly a non-loyal place to work-an employee goes all out and he gets treated like dirt by his boss-fired for giving a damn-fired for deserving a promotion -fired when times are worse-fired headed into Christmas-the robber isn’t the only scum -so is the boss

    Here’s an idea for Autozone.

BIG 4X8 foot sign over the front door….

“ROB us first and kill out employees and take all the money.”

(bottom line) 1/2 inch letters “the corporate staff, far far away and we don’t care!”

I just emailed that to the ‘contact us’ on their website.

I’ll try to keep this board updated.

auto zone, you just lost me. O’reiley here I come.

the gun was in his truck! hell, I worked in the post office for 10 years
with a gun in my truck.I’m afraid we’re gonna lose our right’s with all these dam liberal.s.
what some dam idiots this country has produced in the last 40 years. these idiot’s must be the dropping’s

from the idiot’s who welcomed us home from ‘nam in ,’68 & ,’70.
GOD help us, PLEASE!!! they are destroying this beautiful country that so many has paid the ultimate
    old sarge,’nam vet

      December 4, 2012 at 9:38 pm

How do those idiot Liberals keep getting re-elected? Dictator Obama and the entire Liberal Congress wants to ban Americans from owning a gun to protect their property and families.
Do that and the criminals will have a field day. No body is going to take their guns away.
They’ll be the only ones with guns. Every State needs to pass laws requiring every Citizen take fire arm training and be required to own a gun. When you take guns out of the hands of law abiding citizens, the criminals are the only ones with guns. Crimes go up 100%. The only way to stop this is bring the old style west back. Instead of a trial by jury and years in prison, hangem.

Auto Zone ought to give McLean a medal. He saved the mgr’s life. Every business ought to be allowed to carry guns and blow those sorry punks in their behinds. Save the public millions from having to feed, clothe and house those sorry you know what. Our prisons are so over crowded now the states are having to release them to rape, murder, steal, etc; again and again.
Next time some one goes to rob an Auto Zone someone is going to die.

Nothing new there. Many years ago, early 80s, an estranged husband burst through the back door of the USPS ‘Morningside’ Post Office in Shreveport, La.. The mans wife was a carrier @ that station. He immediately knocked her to the floor, straddled her body and shot her point blank in the head. He fled out the same door he entered and one of our carriers ran to his personal vehichle and grabbed his 30.30 Winchester and held the shooter until the police could arrive to make the arest. The Shreveport Post Master elected to fire this employee rather than honor him for his actions. Union saved this mans job and his career. The wounded employee survived and the estranged husband went to prison.

I won’t ever go to Auto Zone again. Having his gun in his car was not breaking the rules. What a bunch of heartless SOB’s. This needs to go viral so all of America reads this. I’m proud of the Air Force Veteran as he did what some people would do who served our Country

I fired off an email to Auto Zone letting them know I have made my last purchase in their store. Their zero tolerance gun policy is ridiculous and additionally they fired a military veteran. I hope he finds a better job.

Just saying “You are not going to shop at AutoZone Anymore” does not Help the Management of that Company to get the Message that America is POed at them for Firing this Brave American! We must all call their Corporate Offices and get on the record that They are Losing Our Business if they do not Rehire this Brave Worker because he DID THE RIGHT THING and should have been Rewarded Instead!!! If a Good Number of Customers just stop shopping there, then Corporate will assume those Stores are underperforming and Institute Cost Cutting Measures including Laying off Workers and /or Closing those Stores!

Money talks and BS walks. Actually buy stuff at their competitors and then mail the receipts or copies of them with a polite note explaining you went elsewhere due to Autozone’s policy.

lets do what we as responsible people can. dont shop autozone. use someone else. maybe if they change their policy and rehire him back, ill change my mind and continue to purchase there. was there last week. had i known this i would have gone elsewhere. they arnt the only auto supply store around.

The way that Air Force Veteran reacted is the EXACT same way I would’ve reacted. How dare AutoZone fire an employee who 1. prevented an armed robbery of their store 2. prevented any loss of property, money, or most importantly, personnel 3. is a military veteran.

As a 23 year old Air Force Veteran myself, I am appalled by their actions. Good job on that employee, and thank you for your service sir.

last time in autozone, They deserve to be shut down and gthe management at theseniorlevel fired.
Stockholders should raise hell noiw. change the policy, reinstate the employee with all back pay and a large bonus reward and take itour of the senior managements personal pay checks.

    I already boycott AutoZone.

Any company which seeks to limit one Constitutional protected 2nd Amendment rights is in the wrong.

Auto Zone should be grateful that a red-blooded American Vet had the guts to stand up to a criminal. What? Would they have rather’d the criminal killed someone instead???

So many of these corporations are in bed with the enemy.

Will never shop AutoZone again, not will I ever again visit Virginia. If people are that negative about saving a store & people….I would not want to go anyplace that was not well protected. When I use my Right To Carry gun ……it will be where people do not get fired defending their own rights. Its ignorance of that kind that let thieves know where to strike without interference. Thieves will always carry & do not feel the necessity for a license to do so. I would think that ex-military 23 yr. old will not have a problem getting a “good” job.

This is crazy to me because every corporate company has this policy. Notice that O’Reilly’s and Advanced are quiet as church mouses. They don’t want you to know that they won’t let their employees commit suicide either. If you manage to find a place that can’t afford electronic security, or perhaps they are time-transported in from 1910, good luck with the Chinese auto parts they sell…
