With rising sales, Ruger plans to boost production at Mayodan facility

Connecticut-based Sturm Ruger & Co. said Tuesday that it plans to increase firearm production at a 220,000-square-foot, $26 million gun plant it opened in Mayodan last year.
Check it out:

The company released fourth-quarter and year-end 2013 earnings Tuesday and said in the release that it began manufacturing a “limited quantity of rifles” at the Mayodan facility during the fourth quarter of 2013 and that production is expected to increase in 2014. Ruger plans to add a total of 473 jobs by the end of 2017.

Though the company hasn’t publicly discussed what arms it has been making at the Mayodan plant prior to this mention of starting rifle manufacturing, the company’s product lines includes pistols and shotguns.

The company said it recorded higher sales in both the fourth quarter and all of 2013.
