Colt Temporarily Closes Down Factory to Protest Gun Control Laws at Connecticut Capitol

Colt Manufacturing Co. has operated in Connecticut for 175 years, and remains one of the nation’s most venerable gun makers. However, a package of gun control bills may threaten the company’s future in the state, along with the livelihoods of its employees. According to the Associated Press, Colt president Dennis Veilleux made the decision last Thursday to shut down the Colt factory for a day so roughly 600 workers can make their voices heard at a public hearing in the state Capitol. There, they waved signs with messages such as “save our jobs.”

“These are the faces of the jobs at Colt,” Veilleux told the Associated Press. “Each of these people represents other people in the state. They represent the community and, in a lot of cases, they’re the breadwinners of their families. And more and more, manufacturing jobs are hard to come by.”

Along with Colt employees, representatives of the National Rifle Association and other gun owners groups also testified at the hearing. The Capitol building was crowded by both supporters and opponents of the gun control bills, which many feel could have a negative effect on state industry.

Thank you Colt for standing up for our freedoms and the jobs that would otherwise be lost!

  • Missy Kennedy

    Colt – Come to Texas!!!

    • GG

Only problem with Texas is that the liberals are going there and infiltrating the schools and other places…gotta be careful…the liberals seem to ruin where they are and moving to conservative states and spread their garbage there as well..

      • fliteking

Where the liberals go . . . so follow the entitlement seekers.

        • Millard Huff

Yep have a lot of them there entitlement seekers in Florida.

      • pduffy

But Colt moving to Texas could help offset the liberals. We need them here.

    • 7papa7

Where ever they choose to go they just need to make sure it is a gun friendly state. I would love to have them here in Kansas. I would even work for them without pay but get one gun a month for my labors.

  • Barbara Johnson

Come and move to Arizona, the number 1 rated gun friendly state!

    • $12994363

Not friendly enough. You’re not allowed target practice on those things coming north across the border. Or are you?

  • bmwsid

Obammy wants to get rid of anything productive. Look around. Pontiac Vibes everywhere, as well as G6s. Had to stop that too!! If it is successful, gotta get rid of it somehow!

  • Watchdogman

Colt…move out of that liberal mud hole.

  • Ronald R. Johnson

Colt close it down there and move your factory and employees to Florida and maybe Obama and your states elected NUTS can find jobs for people there! Maybe Finstein can move there and open a Hoe House, but of course she will not be one of the attractions, but for Two Dollars a POP Michelle might be!

  • fliteking

Good for Colt, hit ’em where it hurts.

  • BeeKaaay

Leftwingwackos hate it when people who disagree with leftwingwackoism, have jobs. So they WILL hurt these people.

  • jong

They are welcome here in Michigan. We need a close base of support and supply since Detroit is now coming under a good administration and there is bound to be problems.

  • truthbeknown

i own a colt and love it. i live in Ohio and i know that Ohio would love to have colt move here if they decide to move.

    • Doc

Really? Didn’t OH vote for Obama?

      • $12994363

It did, and it did. You’d have thought that the first mistake was enough, but it wasn’t. Ohio isn’t the brightest bulb in the flag.

        • bluejacket.

Not sure if you can blame OH for the results of a rigged election.

      • jbaviera

Yes and no, the three biggest cities did (Cincinnati, Columbus, Cleveland, and they carried the state) but not necessarily the whole of the people.

  • Adrian Vance

Colt should be in Texas and I think many of the rest of us should be there too, but then I am in California, The People’s Republic thereof:

See The Two Minute Conservative at: and when you speak ladies will swoon and liberal gentlemen will weep.

  • TPS12

They can’t pass a budget but they know how to destroy a country.

  • dominke

Colt should move out of commie state ASAP. If they don’t some dipstick will pass a law so they can’t move without big penalty. Any one who is in gun business should leave the communist Northeast.

  • Charlie

Stupid people that are willing to cut major income from state. Perhaps loss a corporation that has been in their state for 175 years and for what a governmental power take over. Gun control only makes it easier for criminals to commit crimes. Gun control is actually population control. Just look back in history one country after another took weapons from the citizens then the government could really become tyrannical. Example 1929 Hitler in Germany. !3 million jews died/murdered by that tyrannical leader. It can happen here if allowed, more gun laws more chances of that scenario happening here in the USA. Wake up americans, read some history. Don’t let the servants of our government disarm you !!!

    • Doc

Six million Jews and five million “defective races,” if my history is correct.

    • Black Rain

Now they(Jews)think the demorats are their savior. “Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. ” The Americans of African descent are doing the same thing, Mr Powell and Mr Cosby along with a lot of other poorly informed citizens.

    • CrustyOldGeezer

They don’t need to be, or even show any sign of being, Intelligent.

They are politicians, and that’s the only thing that matters.

  • ron44

colorado is losing business because of gun control.

  • Doc

If Colt had any balls (they don’t) they would tell the governor they will leave if they passed the gun control bills. Magpul is already making plans on relocating out of CO! I urge all of you to buy their products, if you can find any, to show support for their courageous and costly decision. I wrote every gun manufacturer I could find to encourage them to follow Magpul’s example. I urge everyone to do the same. Let’s take all the jobs from NY, CO, CT, NJ, MD, and especially IL and move them to places that support the 2nd Amendment; IN, TX, NC, SC, AR and others.

  • 2War Abn Vet

t’s time for Colt to follow General Grant’s advice, and move South.

  • nonstopca

COME ON Colt…..make the next move and start the process of moving out of state.

  • pduffy

We can save their jobs by buying their products, in spite of their evil government. I am going out today to buy a new Colt.

  • moparfan54

Pack up and come toTexas, I like my Colt, and we will treat you right.

  • Lester Green

thank you colt, follow the lead of Magpul in Co, and move to a gun friendly state.

  • metro143

If the state of Connecticut passes these laws. Colt should move completely out of the state along with all other firearm, ammunition dealers. Don’t even sell or repair products for there Police Departments. Refuse to service any of there weapons. All we need is for Ruger, Smith & Wesson, Glock, Remington, Springfield armory, Bushmaster, and H&K and all other Gun manufacturers to join in for their own survival

  • Adrian Vance

Move it to Texas, the only state that can secede without legal consequence per treaty.

See The Two Minute Conservative at: and when you speak ladies will swoon and liberal gentlemen will weep.

  • $12994363

Take the jobs to a friendlier state, leaving the others behind to collect the unemployment from CT.
