G&A Ranks the Best States for Gun Owners in 2013

These days, it’s becoming more difficult for gun owners across the country to find safe haven, as the powers that be on both federal and state levels begin introducing a quagmire of anti-gun legislation hindering the rights of law-abiding citizens. States like Illinois are notorious for their anti-gun agendas, while states like Texas are viewed as a sort of shooters’ paradise.

But just how true are those reputations? To provide you, dear reader, with a primer of gun-friendly regions of the United States, we’ve analyzed all 50 states—and Washington, D.C.—and ranked them to find out which are the most pro-gun.

States can score a maximum 10 points per category, with a perfect score of 50. Full disclosure, though: No state attained that perfect score, though two states came awfully close. As was expected, Washington, D.C., kicked off our list with a whopping zero points, and other anti-gun Meccas such as New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts and California weren’t far behind. Topping our list of pro-gun states were Arizona, Vermont, Alaska, Utah and Kentucky. Click through the gallery below to see where your state ranked.

Unless we hold the line – – – 20 years from now this same article will appear outlining the best states to own a knife

Either that or a squirt gun

      • fliteking

        Or perhaps a “squirt device”

        • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_NLORN6B3ZNGCAJTFHWWFUUEY4Q jong

Ah there you go a non offense looking device. Of course it can not look anything like a weapon and when fired soaks the person firing. Some what like the liberals talking about economics.

put some bleach in a squirt gun and shoot in the face

We are becoming an enslaved country by our government. A free country with liberties would never allow this to even be considered. If we don’t do something soon, very soon, it will be to late and we will lose all our freedoms. They are taking them away as fast as they can.

      • fliteking

        You are correct.

      • jstarusa

Apparently there are not enough people concerned about it! Its easier for a community organizer to become president, than to find a real conservative leader! Some talk the talk, but cant walk the walk. Also contrary to public opinion, talk is not cheap, as witnessed by what is happening to this country! Liberals do not care who they offend, why should we?

        • 7papa7

The reason we should care is because we are better than they are so in general we should not offend but their are times when it may be appropriate. What we need to do is clearly and intelligently present the conservative view. Most Hispanics agree with the conservative agenda. They are pro life, they are pro capitalism, they are in agreement over all with our stance they just haven’t heard properly presented. That is why we need people like Dr. Carson and Senator Cruz on the front lines constantly presenting why conservatism is so much better for the people than liberalism. Most people come to America for the simple fact they can become the best they can be because of the freedom we afford them, liberalism takes that away.

          • rick0857

If what you say were true then the recent survey of Hispanics would be invalid. In that Reuters survey they found that 70% of Hispanics favored government solutions to problems specific to their causes, in other words they prefer being pandered to over following conservative principles of hard work and personal responsibility.

          • 7papa7

The problem is that conservatism is not being clearly conveyed. When it is Hispanics are in agreement. The problem is that the RINO’s are trying to define conservatism and when they do it is not a pretty thing. I think the best example of that was the female Hispanic governor who spoke at the republican convention when she was talking about what she believed it was all conservative. I have seen this time and again with both my Hispanic and African American friends. The problem is the inability of so many conservative politicians to adequately explain conservatism.

          • rick0857

There are exceptions to every rule. I was both amazed and impressed by the Governors speech also.

          • 7papa7

I know many Hispanics and when they talk about what they really believe it is conservative. They believe in the basic conservative agenda. The problem is that their are so few who can clearly explain the conservative values and agenda. When they are explained properly, people flock to conservatism. That is why we need more people like Ted Cruz. He is clear, concise and intelligent in his presentation.

          • rick0857

Yes but there in lies our problem we can only replace one third of our Senators every election cycle and the dems will never replace any of theirs. They are like the unions in that they think once you get a job that job is supposed to yours and yours alone for the duration of your life. Which is why we always end up with idiots like: Schumer, Boxer, Feinstein, Menendez and so on.

          • 7papa7

These people are proof positive that term limits is needed. Actually I don’t blame these idiots, I blame the totally uninformed morons who vote for them. They are reelected because they are reelected by their constituents. What we need are constituents with an IQ above zero.

          • rick0857

7papa7 you and I think quite a lot alike and I just recently started following you after reading some of your comments over at Godfather Politics on their recent article “My neighbor voted to increase my taxes.”
            Stay true, stay tough.

          • 7papa7

We have to stay on top of what the lunatics on the left are doing or we will lose our country almost over night. Thanks for your comment.

You wont be able to own anything in a dictatorship!

I am happy that my state Michigan while needing work is moving towards the second amendment rather than away from it. As for others it seems the more liberal the less Constitutional.

  • Julian DH

Native Kalifornian who got out due to tramps like boxer, pelosi, and feinstein, and their ultra-liberal leaders in Sacramento. Kalifornia has lost of crime, no money for police, and things more gun-control will solve all their problems. Of course it does not work, and crime gets worse, while defenseless citizens pay with their lives. Good going from a formerly great-state.

Forgot to add the are bankrupt too. But don’t tell the Socialist Democrats that. They think they are rich. Sure in immorality, violence, and crime. Nice going guys. hehehe

  • Country Roads

WV ranks fifth in the nation in gun ownership (almost everybody has one or a dozen) but 21st on this survey?????

    • gregsmom

Yes, I wondered about Idaho, too.

    • rick0857

It’s not about the number of guns owned in any particular State it’s about the laws in place that PROTECT THOSE WHO OWN THE GUNS. Read the side panels on each State while going through this again and you’ll see how you got those ratings for the States you mention.

  • AmericanIcon

Can’t say how often I’ve read the G&A article, but as an Arizonan, and a member of the organization most responsible for the legislation that vaulted us into the #1 spot (see Arizona Citizens Defense League, ‘accomplishments’ page), rereading it is the high point of my day…every day.
