‘Sin Tax’ On Guns?

‘Sin Tax’ On Guns?

If you can’t ban ’em, tax ’em.

Lawmakers looking to more tightly regulate firearms in the wake of the Newtown school shooting and other massacres are moving at the state and federal levels to introduce new taxes on firearms and ammunition.

The proposals range from the modest — a proposed 5 percent tax in New Jersey — to the steep — a proposed 50 percent ammo tax in Maryland. The bills follow efforts to ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines and expand background checks, measures that have had mixed success at the state level.

The taxes — much like so-called “sin taxes,” like those on cigarettes — serve a dual purpose. They can deter buyers, while using the extra revenue for favored programs. In this case, the sponsors want to direct the money toward mental health services, police training and victims’ treatment.

Democrats: If you can’t ban it, tax it, so people won’t be able to afford them. Only the criminals will have guns.

    • Rattlerjake

All of these extra taxes are unconstitutional.

      • $5708171

Yes, they are. Any infringement on our right to bear arms is unconstitutional.

    • 7papa7

All this will do is force law abiding citizens to buy guns from private parties or on the black market.

    • $5708171

Then, they better tax ALL of the other constitutional rights as well. You want to avoid illegal search and seizure?? It’s gonna cost ya. Free speech? Cough it up. Trial by jury? Only if you pay the “sin-tax”.

  • MOMULE

Voters need to remember all this control crap in 2014. I will never vote for another Democrat.

    • Rattlerjake

If you have ever voted for one you are part of the problem.

Capt. Mark Kelly was in the news a couple of weeks ago saying he was In the military and he knew what an AR15 would do. He was lying with every statement he made. I was in the military and used an M16, M16A1, M16A2 and M16A3 and none of them I used would do what he said they would do. The AR15 is a weapon that is cosmetic to the M16’s. Just like Pelosi and Feinstein’s faces if they didn’t use lots of cosmetic’s they would be pretty scary also. I thought Mr Kelly was suppose to be an Officer and a Gentleman. But I see he is just a lying fake.

His new organization calls him a combat veteran. Of what I have no idea he flew aircraft not a M16

Another end run around the Constitution and the Second amendment specifically. This is nothing but a means of forcing a ban upon the citizen’s of this country being able to arm themselfs as we are constitutionally able to. these are god given right’s not political ployus to use to enslave us. We must watch carefully at every level what they say and what they do. when they go against our will then we must do our duty and remove them from office. We need to take America back if we wish to have an America still here fore our grandchildren and great grandchildren. We survived as a nation for 150 yrs with zero gun laws. since 1922 there hve been written and passed litrally thousands of laws, ordinances prohibition’s on gun’s and ammunition. At a time when our Gov’t is stockpiling billion’s of rounds of Ammunition, purchasing over 7000 urban asault tanks, over 7000 M12A2’s all for what? target practice for the alphebet soup of agencies? I think not, unless you consider shooting unarmed civilians ‘target practice’.

    • garysvent

The UN’s ‘soldiers’ are particularly good at shooting unarmed civilians; they got oodles of practice in Africa.

Blue helmets do make good targets, folks.

Not a problem Just go to the next state that is obeying the Constitution and buy what you need plus a little extra for your friends. You never know when the defecation will hit the propeller

  • MOMULE

How about a Sin Tax on Democrats, they BOO-ED GOD on national TV during their convention and nobody says anything about it.

    • $5708171

Oh puleeeeez!!! Who believes in God any more????(dripping sarcasm) Yeah, they’d have you believe that God is as passe as hooped skirts.

  • Barbara Johnson

How can Government put a “sin tax” on anything? They don’t believe in God and Religion!

  • garysvent

I’m trying to recall a God-given Constitutionally protected right that is currently taxed by our esteemed government. Speech? Assembly? Religion? Redress of Grievances? No unreasonable searches? Warrants? Trial by Jury?

Well, I guess these criminals have to start some place. If they keep this sort of crap up, they’ll be lucky if they don’t LOSE the right to tax citizens in their property OR income.

  • http://batman-news.com Cooleemee Edd

NO more taxes! We should also get rid of the @&(*$@ “HAZMAT” fees for gunpowder and primers. What a stupid idea THAT was!!!

    • $5708171

Just another way to make it hurt a little more to buy ammo components.
