Mistake in gun bill could defeat the effort

One of the major gun-control efforts in Olympia this session calls for the sheriff to inspect the homes of assault-weapon owners. The bill’s backers say that was a mistake.

Forget police drones flying over your house. How about police coming inside, once a year, to have a look around?

As Orwellian as that sounds, it isn’t hypothetical. The notion of police home inspections was introduced in a bill last week in Olympia.

That it’s part of one of the major gun-control efforts pains me. It seemed in recent weeks lawmakers might be headed toward some common-sense regulation of gun sales. But then last week they went too far. By mistake, they claim. But still too far.

    Next they will want to violate the 3rd amendment and quarter troops (Deputies) in your home. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. The only thing broke is dealing with people’s mental problems and putting the real criminals behind bars so they don’t commit more crimes.

    Wouldn’t they need a valid search warrant stating what they are seeking? Even then, anything they find OTHER than what was listed wouldn’t be admissible! Of course, marijuana wouldn’t be, anyway, as that is being legalized there in Washington state, I believe! All they REALLY want is all our guns! That way the ‘authorities’ needn’t fear the populace when they decide to become extra-legal!

      that’s not necessarily true mogul264 — If “other things” were setting out and obvious it would be admissable. You just can’t search in places where the object(s) your legally there to search for would/could not be in (Can’t search for an elephant in a breadbox).

        Obviously, I didn’t mean something ‘obviously’ viewable while casually walking in. I think, if I lived there, that I would FILL my house with gun-shaped objects, gun-shaped drawer pulls, rifle legs on stools, etc entire rooms of toy but realistic-looking pistols and rifles. And, I’d paint those orange tips black, too! I already have some saved by my mother from my childhood! Drive ‘em nutz!!

    I think they ought to leave the police our of our homes. They can’t even control the street violence let alone go after legalized gun owners. Don’t you need a warrant for them to come into your house???? I agree with gas pump junkie if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. Like he says investigate the mental problems!!!!!
