Arkansas to allow concealed guns in churches

The Arkansas House of Representatives has overwhelmingly passed a measure that would allow concealed guns to be carried in churches and houses of worship, and the governor’s office says it plans to sign the bill.

The measure, which passed 85-8 on Monday, gives houses of worship the option of allowing concealed weapons.

Passed by the state Senate in an equally lopsided 28-4 vote last week, the bill states it is “immediately necessary for the preservation of the public peace, health, and safety” because “personal security is increasingly important.”

“A person should be allowed to carry a firearm in a church that permits the carrying of a firearm for personal security,” the bill reads.

    What right does the Arkansas legislature have to make such a law? This means that the state thought it had the right to ban guns from church in the first place! It is none of government’s business either way. The Second Amendment is their right to do so. All laws about the right to carry, including Concealed Carry laws, are unconstitutional because they violate the Second Amendment in fact or in principal. The best that can be said for this action in Arkansas (which happens to be my home state, though I now live in Oklahoma) is that it at least agrees with the Second Amendment…but such agreement is an arrogant assumption of a right the Arkansas legislature does NOT have.

    The States do have the right to make laws that do not contradict the Constitution. In this case the new Arkansas law only reinforces the Constitution. Them Arkansas folks is my Kin. My father was from Benton County in Northwest corner of Arkansas, near the OK border. I love’em.

    Any given Sunday you can see guys carrying open in my church and apart from them I know for a fact that many more are carrying concealed. We may be like the Glock commercial where everyone whips out their pistols and say, I guessed he picked the wrong dinner”, only here the pastor will say, i guess he picked the wrong church.

    Arkansas, with all the other states in the union, has unlawfully kept its citizens from bearing arms for a very, very long time. I don’t see where this is something to be celebrated unless the state legislature repeals all gun laws, in accordance with the supreme law of the land.

    Self defense was not the reason for adding the 2nd Amendment. It was to ensure American citizen’s right (and necessity) to form militias to protect against our own government in the event it becomes our enemy. Owning and carrying for self-defense is secondary, and to hunt or target shoot follows. Think about it. The founding fathers wanted to make sure our citizens would never be impotent in the face of an oppressive government (as they had been in Britain). Isn’t that why europeans escaped to this land in the first place due to, among other things, government intrusion into peoples’ lives without any avenue for redress? I am grateful i can conceal carry here in South Carolina and am not going to make a huge stink to open carry. Instead we should be fighting to form militias. We will have continuing problems with gun controllers until we have militias which is blatant use of the 2nd Amendment, ending lawsuits to dismantle it.

    People have the God given right to protect themselves anywhere and everywhere.We live in a despot society with a despot president and despot democratic representatives. We are not going to be targets of the left or targets of the illegal gun owners.
