Even Without Congress, Obama Could Act to Restrict Guns

Unburdened by re-election worries and empowered by law to act without Congress, U.S. President Barack Obama could take action to improve background checks on gun buyers, ban certain gun imports and bolster oversight of dealers.

Prospects for gun control legislation intensified in the wake of the school massacre in Newtown, Connecticut, as more pro-gun rights lawmakers said on Monday they were open to the possibility while Obama and three cabinet members met at the White House to discuss the subject.

Having just won a second four-year term, Obama does not need to fear alienating voters who favor gun rights and he could press ahead without lawmakers on fronts where federal law enables executive action.

    Heck, he could just legislate by imperial decree- oops, I meant executive order. He’s already shown his willingness to bypass congress, what’s to stop him now?

    I would like to see congrees act to cut Obamas spending, travel and healthcare. They should even put the SOB in jail for domestic terrorism.

    Actually, you are incorrect, The only way to legally alter the 2nd amendment is by a constitutional amendment that would require a majority vote in congress and the senate, federal law cannot contradict or modify the constitution. if he attempts to side step this, he will be subject to immediate impeachment!

    The thing about congress they will do nothing and let Obama take our guns and they say it is an excuse for not having to answer for anything. Jest like what congress has done in letting Obama use executive powers then they can say it is not there fault. This is what we have for representatives in Washington DC and the State Capitols they let Obama have what he wants then say they are not responsible for what Obama is doing by using Executive Powers then congress is off the hook.

    law there is. Get it done. The people are fed up with this idiot and increasingly fed up with Congress not
    doing anything about him. He should have been impeached in his first term. He’s more deserving of Impeachment than any other President in History!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Congress has no backbone!!!!
