Sen. Manchin Stonewalls on Gun Control: ‘Honey … I’m Not Talking to You Anymore’

Posted on: December 18th, 2012

Senator Joe Manchin (D – WV) appears to have changed his tune on the second amendment. The Democratic Senator who received an “A” rating from the NRA appeared on MSNBC’s Morning Joe on Monday to discuss the school shooting in Newtown, Connecticut.

In the wake of the tragedy, Democrats are calling to pass the Assault Weapons Ban. When asked by Breitbart News, Manchin disagreed that his remarks on MSNBC show his stance on the second amendment have flipped. “I didn’t change my mind on anything. I think everything is open for discussion.” It should be noted that Manchin, also known for breaking campaign promises on tax hikes, may have a difficult time explaining his turnaround on guns to voters in his own state. West Virginia, a state President Obama lost in 2008 and 2012, has one of the highest rate of gun ownership in the country: 55 percent own guns.

“I just came with my family from deer hunting,” Manchin said on MSNBC. “I’ve never had more than three shells in a clip. Sometimes you don’t get more than one shot anyway at a deer. It’s common sense. It’s time to move beyond rhetoric. We need to sit down and have a common-sense discussion and move in a reasonable way.”

      You are absolutely correct!

“The right of the citizens to keep and bear arms has justly been considered as the palladium of the liberties of a republic; since it offers a strong moral check against the usurpation and arbitrary power of rulers; and will generally, even if these are successful in the first instance, enable the
people to resist and triumph over them.” – Justice Joseph Story

“The very atmosphere of firearms anywhere and everywhere restrains evil interference
      - they deserve a place of honor with all that’s good.” George Washington

“The strongest reason for people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.” – Thomas Jefferson

Hey Joe, what happens when you’re attacked by 4 thugs?

  • Guest (but maybe not for long)

He doesn’t get it. And I highly doubt he’ll see another term in office if his constitutents speak up. Especially if 55% of the residents own guns.

    Bye bye, Manchin.
Got to wonder what you’re going to throw at anyone who comes after you and you only have 3 rounds. The 2nd Amendment, dummy, is as much to allow the citizens to protect themselves from idiots like you who’d restrict them to the point they’re defenseless. With Obama, you KNOW that he’s after ALL conservatives. And YOU, dummy, are aiding and abetting, which makes you no better.

How many of the friends of the Tea Party are going to show their true colors by bowing down to this administration? This nation is in for difficult times over these next 4 years. Our Constitutional rights are being eroded on all fronts with our right to bear arms and freedom of speech being attacked with a voracity which can only be compared to pre WWII Germany.

When I see the things that this administration does and what they are proposing I can’t help but think of pre WWII Germany. I’m sure they were disarming citizens for the citizens own good too.

This subject has nothing to do with hunting. Don’t believe he is a true second amendment backer.

  • henryknox

He’s a democrat so I knew he was lying the whole time anyway. Anyone that trusts a Democrat or a Progressive Republican is a fool. I feel sorry for the people that were duped by his campaign. I would be sick to my stomach if I found out that I was that stupid.

  • Mike

I agree with one part of what he says, but not with what he means when he says it. “We need to sit down and have a common-sense discussion and move in a reasonable way.” I’m sure, beyond a shadow of a doubt, he means we should implement more gun control. If we truly had a “common-sense discussion” we would find that gun control laws have always been ineffective and even counter productive. When guns are restricted crime rates go UP. When concealed carry and other “gun friendly” laws are passed crime rates go down. So common-sense would tell us to eliminate gun control laws, not pass more of them.

Manchin is a TRAITOR!!!!! The good people of West by God Virginia will remember the next election. Get rid of him in the primaries and install a Tea Party candidate that understands what the 2nd Amendment means! Freedom loving people all over the U.S. need to stand NOW and be counted! War is looming folks and there will be bloodshed! If freedom is not worth dying for then all is lost! I myself do not fear death and do not value my life over freedom! This country needs to remember that it was founded as a republic and return to what the founding fathers envisioned and that is only people who have a stake in it will be allowed to vote! All the freeloaders that voted this muslim communist in would have to be productive or starve! Manchin is a turncoat and the penalty for treason is death by hanging or firing squad!
