iRegatta is an app for the iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad or Android devices. This app is a tactical racing app which needs GPS input for your position. If your iPad do not have a GPS you can import the NMEA data via wifi.
What can you do with iRegatta? For racers you have starting timer and distance and bearing to the line. During the race you have information like; COG, Wind Direction, SOG and VMG, mark laylines and performance comparison to Polars. You can ad waypoints and use the iPad for navigation. You can download charts and see your position on a chart. Therefore iRegatta has lots of useful features.
NMEA data display of up to 12 separate data points
GPS and NMEA data
Start line setting
Distance to start line
Time to start line
Charting of Speed and VMG Tracking
If you have instruments which you would like to connect to your iPad, such as speed depth wind etc and even GPS you can use ” Seamate ” , or DMK box (www.DMKyacht.com) to send NMEA data over Wifi.
The ” Velocitek ProStart GPS speed and distance timer ” gives you start line data for sailboat racers, but is quite expensive at $600. If you have an iPad you can use iRegatta for the same purpose. You would need a way of holding the iPad in a place where you can easily see the information, but once you have done that you have your own ProStart.
