The N.C. Tobacco Trust Fund Commission awarded the North Carolina Wildlife Federation with a $150,000 check to help fund the Farmers Manage Deer project Saturday morning at Hammocks Beach State Park.
“We’re very excited and grateful for this grant,” said Carol Buie-Jackson, chairwoman of the North Carolina Wildlife Federation (NCWF). “It’s the perfect program. It gives us an opportunity to launch a program that is positive on so many fronts by helping farmers, helping with the health of the overall deer population, and feeding the hungry.”
The two-year program, which will kick off in January, aims to help manage the deer population by allowing sportsmen to hunt on farmland.
