Pittsburgh Zoo Tragedy: Why Did African Wild Dogs Attack Boy?

In a “worst nightmare” situation, 11 African wild, or painted, dogs killed a two-year-old Pennsylvania boy Sunday after he had fallen into an enclosure at the Pittsburgh Zoo, zoo officials confirmed at a press conference Monday.

One of the dogs was shot after it wouldn’t leave the boy’s body. The others have been quarantined.

“The zoo feels terrible that this tragic accident happened,” said Barbara Baker, chief executive of the Pittsburgh Zoo, which remains closed until further notice.

Well, let’s see. Maybe it was because they are wild African dogs?

      My thoughts exactly.

Had someone been armed and immedately fired a shot at the dogs it would have scared them away, possibly saved the child. You never know. It’s heartbreaking that this can happen to a little toddler. Terrible tragedy 🙁

So I read what a security guard summarized. The mother put her child up on top the safety bar in order to get a better view, and the 2 year old lost his balance. What the F was this retarded mother thinking? I have a 3 year old and would never have thought to balance him on a rail in the zoo! Awful tragedy that could have been prevented with the mother’s common sense. Very sad :(. Poor little baby.

um ya, me too, “why” ummmm because they are WILD animals???

Why did this happen? Perhaps one should ask that question of the idiotic mother who placed her child on the rail in the first place. The dogs acted normally; the mother did not.

  • bluealiendevil

i cannot believe the stupidity of this headlne. WHY? Becase they are wild animals and the small child falling into their “den” was like a rabbit alling in. You know the rest!
