Weatherby has for generations been associated with certain iconic words and actions: hunting the world’s largest and greatest game with the company’s venerable Mark V bolt-action rifle, the admiration of the rifle by Hollywood stars like John Wayne and Roy Rogers, and the Western lifestyle come to mind. Slick skull graphics on a plastic stock should sell more guns than outstanding craftsmanship, fit, and finish, for the same money of course? What, no Wby cartridges offered in the cheap Gen-X series?
That’s right, regular cartridges that don’t run $60+ box have been reported to kill hogs well. So, it appears that Wby is more a name now resting on past products and performance. Couldn’t we go by a Savage, Marlin, or Mossberg in same caliber, apply some stickers from the local smoke shop/head shop and save 2 Benjies? What’s in a name? If it has skull logos or Zombie in the name it’s got to be good! Hell, it’s worth paying an extra 20-40% for those qualities! Uh, isn’t it? Pfffft. Hmmmmmm.
Marketing, destroying quality and price structure in the name of coolness and quick profits.
