Utah Cop Believes That All Gun Owner Should Pass Psych Test to Own Weapons – My Rebuttal

A Utah cop, who goes by Officer Anonymous, wrote an editorial for KSL.com in which he gives several long winded reasons why all gun owners should have to pass a psychological test before being permitted to purchase a weapon.

Let’s look at a few of these:

“…why are you in a hurry to buy a gun? Last-second Christmas gift? Forgot an anniversary and the wife really needs that pink Walther P22?”

Maybe your home was burglarized last night. Maybe your violent ex was just released from prison. Maybe gang activity has suddenly moved to your neighborhood. Maybe you’re a competition shooter and your primary gun broke right before a competition and you need to purchase a replacement. Maybe you need one for a last minute hunting trip.

    You don’t trust the givernment so you’re paranoid, Flunk! But, wait! Tht’s the very reason for the 2nd Amendment…
    Oh, you’re Muslim… Oh you’re Christian… Oh you believe in things that can’t be seen… Flunk!
    I firmly believe that a psych test can be tailored to exclude the givers of the test and fail everyone else.
    I’ll go further most pysch get into psych related employment to treat themselves. So, wouldn’t that be the fox guarding th hen house and a wolf in sheep’ clothing?

      That last part is true! My sister in law was a drug user, and now she is a psychologist for the V.A. Go figure?!

    I went all the way back to the ‘Source Article’ and read it completely. This person needs an infussion of Madera (a favorite adult beverage of the Founders) and a bit of time in the time-out chair to really think about the Original Intent of those Original Terrorists (ask any Brit at the time you would get that label from them, “They” however, LOST.) who set this little Experiment-In-Freedom on the tracks to Today. Want to see how far an ‘indiginous fource can go against the strongest powers on earth? Check out the history of Afganistan, perhaps South East Asia, and you will see three super-powers defeated in Afganistan (yes, three The Brittish, The USSR and US for we intend to quit the field without a Victory) and two (France, and US again) in Souheast Asia alone. In North Africa the French and Italians lost all of their Colonies to ‘indiginous Peoples’ bent on Freedom. Did it take a long time? You bet, but believieng in a CAUSE will get you to the point in time when even Super-Powers are willing to quit the field rather than continue to bleed away the Best and Brightest of their youth in pursuit of an unobtainable goal. Were any of our Armies defeated in Open Battle. Not even once, including Tet of ’68, because the Viet-Cong had been totally destroyed as a fighting force after that ‘dust-up.’ The tracking of Cough Syrup or Sudaphed and the making of criminals of those of us who used to depend on those drugs to manage our allergies and minor colds has done nothing to staunch the flow of Meth into the market place. There are more drugs available now than before the war on Drugs began, and all of the Law Enforcement Officers have been powerless to stop or even slow it down. What makes any of them think we the Citizens of a Free Nation should trust them to be able to keep Our Freedoms Secure, Our Lives Protected and Guns out of the hands of a determined Criminal Class? Just one more reach for the Brass Ring of a Utopia that is beyond Human Reach.

    Yes, blame the law abiding gun owner but do not one damn thing about the criminal element. Just another bias assed ignorant liberal who has not come to grip with it is not the gun that kills, it is only a tool, the person using the weapon to unlawfully kill another human being or beings is the problem. In China with a four times murder rate than the United States, where all firearms are outlawed except in the hands of the government, the tools used to kill are poison, axe and knifes. People kill people – go after the criminal and leave law abiding citizens alone. And then dumb assed cop ask yourself why is it everyone has to be punished for the wrongs doings of a few…?

    What a pig…..this “cop” is too afraid to let everyone know who he is???? He knows he is wrong and is just talking a bunch of garbage. odumbo is probably paying him to say that. Anything to take our guns. I think any cop should have a psych test…..there have been way too many cops shooting when it was NOT necessary. What about that cop that shot and killed a dog that the cop called to come to him. The dog was in his own yard and that cop called the dog to him, then the cop shot and killed him. Nuts? YES. Cops need that test.

    The reality is that ALL cops, emergency personnel, doctors and nurses should undergo intense and periodic physchiatric exams before and during their duty as “citizen protectors”. Many in those professions are known to be “control freaks” which is a psychosis in itself. Oh, and let’s throw in politicians too.

    MY FELLOW AMERICANS: THIS IS FOR ALL POLICE OR GOVERNMENT AGENTS WITH THE SAME MENTALITY: You are given Phycological evaluation inorder to be hired for Your respective positions, and are allowed to carry a Weapon,Correct,? Now how many Officers,agents,etc. go off the DEEP END mentally accross America in one way or another,? And how many have Their weapons taken away forever as would be the case with a common citizen before They were even ALLOWED TO OWN ONE.???? “THINK ABOUT IT PEOPLE” There are many Nut Jobs on Police Departments accross America just waiting to explode for one reason or another and THAT AMERICA IS A FACT,I ASSURE YOU.!!!!!

    If this had been done to EVERY MEMBER OF CONGRESS, and OBAMA. None of us would have any need to come here to DEFEND the 2ND Amendment Again.
    Much like the Democrat, Liberal, Holder, Obama rejection of a PHOTO ID before voting. I suggest the NRA and it’s members might consider this action as something that Helps their cause, rather than hindering it.
    POLICE officers die to preserve the 2nd Amendment. The Least WE THE PEOPLE should do is HELP THEM here.

    It sounds like ” Officer Anonymous ” is an idiot. Maybe he is on some sort of power trip. Only I should be armed, I am above other men and women, I wear a badge. Well ” Officer Anonymous ” the founding farthers wrote the Second Amendment so even stupid people like you can understand it, and if the big words like infringed are to hard to understand, we do have a dictionary, just look up the word. It is spelled INFRINGED.

    As long as the Utah Cop undergoes the same psych test first. I’m finding it harder every day to put my trust in cops. It seems in this day and age, they are against us, whatever happened to “Serve & Protect”, I haven’t seen, or heard of that slogan in quite some time. And as everybody is different, I don’t believe that a psych test would make me feel any safer in this lifetime. However I do believe in the 2nd ammendment, and will do everything I can do to preserve it, it’s our only protection from harmful actions against us.

    Psych tests are tailored to the most liberal tenets at any given time, the very same liberal ideas that demand reasonable restrictions on a God given right. Any time you give a liberal ANY ground they will keep pushing an inch at a time until they have it ALL. In our recent history ALL gun control has been PROVEN FALSE, any time you restrict peoples rights to self defense crime goes UP equal to the amount of restriction. If you need proof look to Chicago, New York, Detroit, Washington DC or LA, ALL have insanely restrictive gun laws and the MOST gun crimes in the nation. As far as the DREADED ASSAULT weapon ban, it is a gold plated joke. It is like saying you can’t make a car that goes any faster than 55, so we are banning the all cars that can go faster than 55 witch by the way is EVERY car on the road. NO government in the United Stated has the constitutional authority to restrict or ban firearms without sidestepping the constitution. Considering the state of tyranny we live in today I question the sanity of ANY government authority that accepts ANY restriction on firearms so I will submit to a psych test as soon as ALL politicians are required to pass a test on the constitution AND a psych test administered by regular people NOT the supposed elite educators.

    Just because we hire a police department to attempt to protect society from the bad things, bad people and certain safety laws DOES NOT MEAN I GIVE UP MY RIGHTS to protect myself, my family and my neighborhood…Cops seem to think we gave up our rights when we hire them…Oh so wrong! We are busy doing other things like working, building something,etc…Just dont have time to also enforce laws…so we sub-contract that out to others…But we have never surrendered our constitutional rights!

      Don’t forget the supreme Court ruled that the cops don’t have a duty to protect any particular person. It’s up to us.

    I think policemen(especially this guy)needs the psych evaluation worse than most people that WORK for a living. He should keep shut regardless since he is an expert on nothing except donuts and women drivers with great legs.

    Why would he do the article as Officer Anonymous, what’s he trying to hide? There are not enough law enforcement officers to protect everyone. They can not respond fast enough to protect you from the 3 thugs that just kicked down your door. You have to be able to protect yourself and your family.

    How about because it is my choice what purchases I make and nobody’s business what I am purchasing and the number of purchases I make/day,/week,/month//year. Just like a police officer decides to purchase crispy cremes and coffee 2-3 times a day, it is nobody’s business what he does with his own money on his own time.

    You know, Officer Annoying may be on to something. Buying a firearm is an important decision. Maybe people should have to have a psych exam for all important decisions. When you drive a car, you pose a possible risk to countless other people on the road. So, shouldn’t you need a psych exam to get a drivers license? How about having a child? That’s pretty important too. How do we, as a society, know that you are capable of raising a child? Shouldn’t that decision require a psych exam too? Oh, who is going to give the psych exam to the people who will be giving psych exams? Where will it end? Now I’m confused, I think I need to call a shrink.

    i think all cops in all states should pass psych tests.i mean most dont even know the laws they swear to uphold.not to mention the sadistic way they are behaving almost everywhere.i just heard a cop pulls over a national guard person and his family for doing 70 in a 60 mph and when he steps out of the car the cops by now more have arrived shoot him dead.what are they afraid of.maybe all the bullying is coming back to bite them.be careful out there.their scared or kill crazy or something

    More than likely over 90% of cops in Utah are Mormon & having been in contact with a few of them over the yrs that I traveled between Az & Wy for the purpose of Antelope hunting in Wy, I can attest that these Mormon cops in Utah are a bit strange, if not anal! Mind you, this is not an attack on the Mormon church or its members, just Mormon cops in Utah!!!
