Employee acted in self defense, says Don’s Guns dealer

Indianapolis gun dealer Don Davis reiterated today that one of his employees was acting in self defense during an exchange of gunfire that left the employee wounded and a 26-year-old man dead at his Westside store.

Brian Wayner died Monday after an exchange of gun shots between him and Benjamin Chance, 42, a clerk at Don’s Guns and Galleries, 3807 Lafayette Road.
Chance was wounded and remains hospitalized.

Davis held a news conference Thursday afternoon at his gun store, where he demonstrated what happened based on his viewing of a surveillance video. The video has not been made public by police. Spokesmen for both Indianapolis police and the Marion County prosecutor’s office said Thursday that an investigation into possible charges in the incident is continuing.
