ACLU wants FBI records about Nevada bear hunt foes
The American Civil Liberties Union of Nevada is demanding to know what information the FBI has collected about people who spoke against bear hunting in the Lake Tahoe area during contentious public meetings earlier this year in northern Nevada.
A Freedom of Information Act request filed Aug. 22 seeks to find out what federal agents reported learning about American Indian Movement of Northern Nevada members and a Nevada group called “No Bear Hunt,” ACLU legal chief Staci Pratt said Friday.
“Our goal is to ensure that people are not targeted for exercising their right to free speech,” Pratt said.
