Okefenokee Coming Back to Life after Massive Wildfire
Tropical Storm Debby wreaked havoc on much of central and northern Florida but it’s rains were just what the Okefenokee Swamp needed.
Officials for the Okfenokee National Wildlife Refuge say the heavy rains were enough to fill the swamp to a level not seen since February 2010.
The region, including the swamp, is in the midst of a drought.
Dry brush fueled last year’s Honey Prairie wildfire that devoured more than 309,000 acres.
