(USA) – People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has called for a boycott of the family film A Dog’s Purpose, after video surfaced Wednesday that appears to show one of the movie’s star dogs performing under duress.
TMZ posted the video with the headline “Terrified German Shepherd forced into turbulent water.” The video, which TMZ says was shot on the set in 2015, purports to show a rescue scene in which the trainer looks to be forcing the dog into a pool of rushing water, as the dog repeatedly claws to stay on land.
The edited video then shows what appears to be the same German Shepherd sinking in the pool as one crew member yells “Cut it!” and others rush over to help the animal.
This page is primarily dedicated to hunting.
99.999% of the time when we mention PETA, we’re making fun of them for their ridiculous views on basically everything.
This might be there first time EVER that we agree with them on something.
This video is flat out hard to watch.
At the beginning it seems like a timid dog that didn’t want to get in the water. But as the trainer continued to try to persuade the animal, it was clear that the German Shepherd was terrified of the turbulent water.
You would think after seeing the dog’s reaction they would take a break or try a different dog.
Instead they force the already stressed animal into the water, eventually leading to it almost drowning.
There’s no excuse for that.
Now before you comment of my bleeding heart, I’ve trained some of the best duck dogs a hunter could ask for, and I understand that at times a stern hand is needed in order to teach or discipline.
But that’s not what’s going on in this video.
This is some Hollywood dog trainer almost killing a dog because he’s trying to make sure he gets paid for the day.
Before losing all credibility (if there ever was any) for agreeing with PETA, I should probably clarify.
I agree with PETA that this is a disturbing video showing an animal being abused.
However, I’m not one to ever get behind a boycott.
If you don’t like something or disagree with someone and you don’t want to give them your money, then don’t.
There’s no need to assemble the troops.
Once you start yelling BOYCOTT you’re just looking for attention.
