Bear injures camper in Arizona’s Tonto National Forest
An Arizona woman was injured Thursday when a Black bear (Ursus americanus) ripped a hole in the tent where she, her husband and their dog had been sleeping. The attack took place at the 61-site Ponderosa Campground in Tonto National Forest just off Highway 260 about 12 miles northeast of Payson according to a press release issued yesterday by the Arizona Game and Fish Department. The popular camping and RVing destination is set amongst towering ponderosa pines at an elevation of 4,600 feet on the edge of Arizona’s Mogollon Rim.
