Operation Jade Helm upsets Texas: War games and rumors of war (games) have been simmering ever since the internet learned of Operation Jade Helm, a complex “Pentagon training exercise” taking place on American soil…which is more than enough to set off a deeply distrustful populace. Time to break out the tin foil? Or take advantage of the 2nd Amendment?
The Defense Department says Operation Jade Helm 15 is a “realistic military training exercise” and notes war games are routinely conducted on American soil. But the eight-week exercise (from July 15 to Sept. 15) with 1,200 special operations troops training in seven states (Arizona, Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Texas and Utah) is one that even the Army admits is out of the norm in “size and scope.”
A map created for the operation labels parts of red states Texas and Utah as “hostile” areas and New Mexico as “uncertain (leaning hostile)” went viral, leading to theories Obama is cracking down on the West.
Speculation took off that Obama might plan to “confiscate firearms, impose martial law, or even forcibly relocate citizens to FEMA camps.” And the official slogan of Operation Jade Helm 15, “Master the Human Domain,” hardly helps ease fears.
A parallel theory suggested that closed Wal-Mart stores were being used to stage the operation, leading the retail giant to issue an official denial to Talking Points Memo.
