Grand Rapids gun dealers do not expect burdensome requirements for owning Taser

A new law that allows people to own Tasers for protection — as long as they have proper training and licensing — is not expected to be a burden on those selling the devices.

Gov. Rick Snyder today signed the law that allows people to own Tasers, also known as stun guns to some, so long as they have a concealed weapons license and receive specialized training on the device.

The law speaks of specialized training, but staff with the office of Sen. Geoff Hansen, R-Hart, said that training simply entails a gun dealer giving a short explanation on the “use, effects and risks” of the device.
